Summer is here and the Formula D season has started. Last weekend was round 2 at Road Atlanta. They compete on a section of the track. Jason Oefelein and Brian Hartsock are travelling this year to support Ryan Tuerck and the Retaks Scion FR-S we built for him. Ryan made it to the Great 8, but was taken out by broken parts. The car was towed back to the pits after the event. It will be staying out on the East coast for the next two events. We will be flying out to get the car ready for Florida, but we can't wait to have it back on the West Coast for round 5.

While the team was out in Atlanta, GA, there was grassroots drifting going on at our local track in Canby, OR. Here are some photos from Pat's Acres Racing Complex.

Normally, several guys from the team would be at the local event drifting but FD takes priority. Kyle Pollard was getting the SR back into his missile car to prep for Evergreen Drift this coming weekend. If you are up at Evergreen this weekend, go out and support him. PARC normally has an open drift event every month and we will be making it to many more.
Some might remember PARC from the video of Ryan Tuerck testing out his 2JZ Scion FR-S. If you don't, then here is the video
Last weekend was the Oregon Trail Rally. It was a Rally America event and a regional competition. The week prior, we had two Rally America Teams, FY Racing and VanWay Racing, using the shop as a homebase.

This past weekend, rally invaded PSI. Two major Rally America teams arrived on Friday and have been using PSI as the home base, while they prepare their cars for the Oregon Rally this coming weekend.
While the rally prep was going on, we were working to get Ryan Tuerck's Scion FR-S ready for Formula D Atlanta.
During practice on the Streets of Long Beach, Ryan Tuerck got to first test the true power of the 2JZ powered Scion FR-S we built him.
It has come to that time again, the start of the Formula Drift series. The series starts on the streets of Long Beach. For the past few years, PSI's involvement in FD has slowly increased. From working with Andrew Coomes and Kyle Pollard, we have expanded to work with many other drivers and teams. This season we are working with veterans like Ryan Tuerck, Robbie Nishida, Dean Kearney, and the Brides Racing team, and rookies like Rob Primo and Chris Jeanneret.

The Top 32 is over and the Top 16 is set. Ryan Tuerck beat Jeff Jones to advance, after Jones' car broke.
In Top 16, Tuerck went against Justin Pawlak and came out the winner.

With Formula D Long Beach coming up next week, Ryan Tuerck's Retaks Scion FR-S is on its way there. We spent many longs nights in the last several weeks getting the car ready. Before leaving, Ryan Tuerck spent a few days testing the 2jZ FR-S at the local kart racing center, Pat's Acres Racing Complex.
Many of you know Andrew Coomes, Formula D driver and Portland native, the driver of the Nissan S13 with the Rocket Bunny kit.
The other weekend was another open drift event at Pat's Acres Racing Complex. When we go to local drift events like this one, we enjoy seeing some of the cars we have worked on, tuned, or baselined out drifting.

We wanted to congratulate Jeromy Born for winning the 2012 Oregon Region SCCA Solo Rookie of the Year award.
Jeromy drove his Nissan 350Z.
Congrats again to Jeromy. We hope to be joining him and the rest of the drivers this year.
This past Saturday we took a day off of working on cars to have some fun at Pat's Acres Racing Complex. It was the first open drift event of the year and we took out a couple of cars.
One of our clients is an avid autocross competitor in his Honda S2000.
He came to us to fix his car and get it ready for competition. Here is a short write-up he wrote after his first competition in the new setup, which he took first in his class.
Lately, PSI has become more involved with drifting and Formula D competition. We have already sat down and talked with FD driver Kyle Pollard (link here) and now it is time to talk with a man behind the scenes, Jason Oefelein. Jason is one of the owners and over the years, he has become more involved with drifting. We sit down with him and talk about drifting.
This past weekend we went out to Pat's Acres Racing Complex, PARC, for some grassroots drifting. We were lucky to have a rain-free day in Oregon. Kyle Pollard brought out his FD competition car, a Nissan Silvia, to have some fun during the off season.
With the Formula D season wrapping up a few weeks ago, we sat down with Kyle Pollard and go over his 2012 drift season. This year he has driven both the F20 Hachi
and the SR20 Silvia K's
Both of the photos were from grassroots open drift events at Pat's Acres Racing Complex (PARC). He has driven both of these cars in competition this past year, but on the Silvia in Formula D competition.
Title Fight, the final round of Formula D this year is coming up this weekend. Jason Oefelein and Brian Hartsock have already landed in Cali and Andrew Coomes' LS240 is almost there. Before Andrew's car left, Brian Hartsock changed the alignment setup for the banks of Irwindale. The last event was in the parking lot in Las Vegas. The tracks are very different and so are the suspension setups. Between every round, Brian adjusts the suspension for the upcoming event.
Brian also changed the fluids and finished preping the car.
Kyle Pollard did not just bring any Hachi, but the purpose built drift F20c Hachi that he earned his Formula D license in.
Photo: Not from inMotion but a previous grassroots event at PARC.
He brought the Hachi back to the 5/8ths bank at Evergreen Speedway and took home a victory in the drift competition at the inMotion show presented by NWMotiv. Earlier this week, I had a chance to sit down with Kyle Pollard over a bowl of pho and talk with him about inMotion.
This past weekend was the 52nd Rose Cup Races at Portland International Raceway.

Last week Friday, May 25th, we went down to Portland International Raceway for a track day with the Lotus Club.
We made the trip down to PIR because we worked on a few of the cars that were attending this track day, including the a pair of Lotus Exige's and Radium Engineering Turbocharged Elise's.
We will be heading to Portland International Raceway later today for a Lotus track day. We won't be driving at the event but will going as more of a support role. There will be a few cars that we have worked on in attendance.
Above: Several Lotus' at the shop.
This last weekend Andrew went down to Portland International Raceway for the Drift Crown series. He wanted to get in a little track time before his next professional event. We recently installed a one-way differential to replace the spool one from last season.
Above: Spool on the left and one-way on the right.
Andrew also had the chance to use his new dual brake caliper setup.
This past weekend, we were fortunate to have nice weather. A few of us from PSI made it down to Woodburn Dragstrip for Woodburn Drags 2012 - Round 1. We were there to support one of our own. Ken, our engine builder, machinist, and consultant, competes in the Sport Compact Pro class. He normally drives his twin-turbo Toyota Supra that runs 10s.
However, his car was not ready for Round 1 because he has been busy working on engines for us.
This upcoming Saturday will be Round 1 of the Evergreen Drift ProAm Series at Evergreen Speedway.
The Evergreen Drift is the Northwest's only sanctioned Formula Drift Pro-Am licensing series. Evergreen Drift was the starting series for ten Formula Drift licensed drivers. Five of those ten drivers had their cars tuned at PSI.

"Kyle finishes his VVL head swap in time but blows his transmition at Nissan Fest 2 weeks Before Formula Drift Long Beach, what will he do?"
Don't forget to check out the rest of the series and support Kyle Pollard on his Journey to Drift.
